Free initial telephone diagnosis

Call me for a free, no obligation chat. I’ve seen a lot of computer problems and usually have a pretty good idea what’s wrong just from talking to you. If a visit is necessary, I will arrange to call around to see you, to find out more about your problem.

Recommendations

I will provide you with a report on my findings, my recommendations for what action is needed to rectify the problem and a quote for how much it will cost. Then, you can decide if you would like me to carry out the work.

New Equipment / Broadband Services

If you need help with setting up a new computer or broadband service that you have already purchased yourself (or you want some advice before you do so), I can help with that too. Computers purchased from a shop can be complicated to prepare / customise so that they do exactly what you need them to.

Troubleshooting

When you call me about a problem, I will ask you about the symptoms that you have noticed such as :

1 Your computer has started running slowly

2 Error messages popping up on the screen

3 Windows popping up on your screen

4 Your computer is turning itself off

5 The screen is freezing so you can't use it

The more information that you can give me, the easier it will be for me diagnose what could be wrong.

Re-installation Of Older Computers

If you have had and been using your computer for a number of years without having had any maintenance work carried out on it, it may be that your computer needs to be re-installed.

This involves removing all of your data, wiping the computer completely and setting it up again, from scratch. If your computer is in good working order otherwise, this is an alternative to purchasing a new one and much cheaper. I would charge £60 for doing this.

This speeds up your computer and eradicates errors / strange behaviours.

Upgrading An Older Computer

Increasing the computer's memory (ram) and/or installing a new hard drive can lengthen the usable life of a computer and signficantly improve it's performance. I might recommend this option and once I know exactly what model / make of computer you have, I will be able to give you a quote for the new parts needed and the work installing them.

Free software

There is loads of good quality free software available to get you up and running but, you need to be careful where you get it from and what you use.
